According to the American Society for Plastic Surgeons, over 115,000 people in their 20’s underwent a neurotoxin treatment (including Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin) in the United States. These medications are are an excellent option in many patients. When you start to notice those wrinkles that form with certain facial expressions it may be time to tighten things with a little neurotoxin. The wrinkles that form on facial expressions are called dynamic wrinkles and they are best treated by botox starting in your 20’s. Static or permanent wrinkles form when repetitive facial motions like deep frowning, smiling, squinting, and puckering of the lips occurs over years. The best part is in our office a little prevention with a few units of Jeuveau or Botox will cost less than $200. One well known study looked at the long-term effects of Botox on two identical twins. After 13 years, the twin who had been getting Botox 2-3 times a year had fewer fine lines on the forehead and around her eyes. She looked noticeably younger than her twin who hadn’t received any Botox. This highlights the old adage – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
